The HOPE Awards recognize up to seven organizations and individuals who are making outstanding contributions to increase minority homeownership.

Applications for the 2009 HOPE Awards will be accepted between March 5, 2008, and December 5, 2008. Individuals, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, and state and local agencies are eligible. Self-nominations are encouraged.

Awards will be determined by a panel of distinguished judges based on the impact of the nominee's work, use of innovative ideas and applications, acceptance in the minority community, and focus on minority homeownership and affordability. Winners will be announced in April 2009.

Finance Award
Recognizes organizations or programs that have helped minorities overcome barriers to finance the purchase of a home.

Homeownership Education Award
Recognizes organizations that have made an extraordinary contribution to education minority homeowners.

Leadership Award
Made to an individual who has made a significant difference in the cause of minority homeownership and whose life work merits recognition and celebration for dedication to this issue.

Media Award
Given to media for the quality of their news coverage about the issue of homeownership.

Project of the Year Award
Honors the housing development or project organization that increases the supply of single-family homes or condominiums built and marketed to meet minority needs in minority communities.

Public Policy Award
Recognizes an organization or individual who has brought about changes in public policy or public programs to help increase minority home ownership.

Real Estate Brokerage Award
Recognizes organizations that provide a full range of real estate transaction services to minority communities.
